WE CAN FORGET OUR TROUBLES AND LAUGH
It's been a year of masks, social distancing and fear. Things are getting better all over America. Here in Iowa, we are using masks and believing in ourselves and our neighbors and friends.
Humor is an important part of moving forward from this nasty year.
I will speak at your event. We will giggle and remember that things are looking brighter. Yes, there have been losses. It was a crummy year. But let's look to the future and count on each other to create a better life for all.

I promise that no one will make you wear a lampshade on your head and dance like a chicken at my humor interventions.
I have spent years taking photographs of nature on the prairie. I have hundreds of photographs and during our time together I will show you some of these pretty pictures. It's amazing how many birds and critters are on the prairie. Many people never take binoculars and head out on a gravel road to investigate nature. I have done this! And I want to share this experience with you.
I am also a composer of music. I will play some of my original music for you! I have been writing music for decades.
And, of course, I will be speaking to you about humorous things. I write humor columns for newspapers. I have been published in fourteen states. I write about everyday topics in my humor. Do you remember Jerry Seinfeld? He is a famous stand-up comedian who also had a successful television show. Jerry talked about everyday topics in his stand-up routine. I write the same kind of humor. Our lives might seem mundane. But there are hilarious things that occur. That is what I write and speak about during my presentation.
So let's have a great time together. Contact me for a fun experience. Let's forget our troubles. Contact me at ghunter@wiatel.net.
Gerri has written musicals and straight plays.
RABABA is a musical that Gerri wrote about a magical kingdom. Imagine a world where people are living hundreds of years. Rababa is a kingdom and Runkel is the king. His wife is named Vola and she is there to advise her husband in the daily operation of the kingdom. An evil sister and brother live in a portion of the castle and they are attempting to steal Runkel's power as king. The citizens of Rababa are angry over a lack of food. A prophet promised a child would be born who would change the world. But where is this child? After hundreds of years of waiting, people no long believe in the promise. Then, one day...
THIS LAND is a musical about the Green family. The year is 1834 and this family has come from the east coast of America to live on the tall grass prairie. Free land! The newspapers on the east coast had huge advertisements tempting people to move to the middle of nowhere and farm for a few years. The land would belong to the newcomers if they could survive and grow crops. The Green family goes through many trials. But they have each other and they hold onto their dreams. This is a musical with lively, happy songs about the excitement of a new land and life.
TREASURE is a musical that takes place in the 1960's Women's lib is being discussed in magazines and the Viet Nam War is in the news. Four elderly sisters, who are best of friends, spend their days drinking coffee, gossiping and taking road trips. The eldest sister dies unexpectedly and leaves the other three sisters to contemplate their final years without her guiding influence. Now, they realize they must make a final trip to their home town to investigate a long-standing family rumor. Did their uncle, Dizzy, really bury treasure in the yard of the home where the girls were raised? Family gossip said he did and now that's he's dead, the girls can't confront him. Now that their oldest sister is dead, they must live without her leadership. They pack shovels in the trunk of the car and head out on the hottest day of the summer. They are dressed in billowy rayon dresses, no sun hats, and no sunglasses. But, they are determined to to back to their hometown and prove, once and for all, that Uncle Dizzy was a big, fat liar. They have to hurry, too. In a few days, the young couple that bought the home place will gain ownership of the property. You will love the hilarious antics and comments by these three women who are full of life and take no guff from anyone. There are many wonderful songs in this musical.
MISS LULA MAE'S 5 X 7
This is a humorous play. At its very core, though, it is a disturbing drama about the insidious nature of long-held secrets and idle gossip. This dramatic play reminds us of the importance of being involved in the world we inhabit and the need to speak up and protect others.
It's the late 1960's. The play opens with four close female friends sitting at a table gossiping and drinking coffee. These women are bored housewives in a small town in the Midwest. By the end of this get-together, they have hatched an innocent, silly plan to hide in the local cemetery one night and spy on the mystery person who leaves flowers each year on a grave. The town has been discussing the "mystery flowers" for years. But, no one has bothered to try to catch the person "red-handed" until now. The grave belongs to a woman who died many years ago and has no relatives in their town. The four ladies think the local law man is the culprit. He's a drunk with lots of personal baggage. These ladies think he's placing the flowers on the grave just to keep the town talking. These four ladies discover a nasty secret about their town that has been hidden for decades.
Audiences will be moved by this play. This play is for mature audiences.
Picnics:
You also must contend with elderly, male relatives who like cigars. Why is Uncle Henry allowed to fill his plate while his lit cigar is ready to drop a 2-inch ash into the potato salad bowl?
Sewing Machines:
I broke most of the machines in my teacher’s classroom. The poor lady was polite but unhappy with me by the end of the semester. At one point, she politely asked me to stop touching her sewing machines. Hey, no problem.
Squirrels:
When you hear squirrels making that incessant chattering noise in your tree, they are not angry about a dog or cat nearby. They are sending messages in a form of squirrel Morse Code to other squirrels in your neighborhood. They are planning to eat the shingles on your roof.
I have written stories and songs since childhood. I spent six years in Nashville writing music. I write all kinds of songs.
This video features music from my musicals. I hope you enjoy it.
